Welcome to the Mentor Learning Center

Using the iMentor Platform

iMentor has spent years developing and improving its own online platform to be used by mentors and mentees alike. You and your mentee will use the platform to communicate and build your relationship online. In this article, you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the most frequently used pages on the site.

Login Screen

Enter your email address and password, then click the green "Sign In" button to the right. If you forgot your password, click the "Forgot password?" option to the left of the sign in button. You will only be able to login after your application has been screened and approved by iMentor.

Home Page

This will be the main landing page when you login to the Platform. On it, you can easily see new messages from your mentee, complete the current lesson, and even go back to review old lessons.

Occasionally throughout the year, an alert/reminder will pop up. Simply fill it out and press "Confirm" or click "Remind me next time" if you're not ready.

After finishing the pop up, you'll be taken to the home page. On this page, there are a few different sections to explore.

Curriculum Messages

These are lessons that your mentee has completed, either waiting for your response (highlighted green and marked "new") or messages you've already seen (grayed out). To view what your mentee has written, just click anywhere on the row.

Current Curriculum

This will display the current assigned lesson. If you have not started/completed the lesson, there will be a green box. If you have, it will be a blue box saying "Lesson complete."

My Curriculum History

Here, you can view any past lessons that have been assigned - even with previous mentees. You'll be able to see which lessons have been completed and which ones haven't. To view a specific lesson, just click on it!

Lessons

Lessons can vary in content, but for the most part are laid out the same. There's a lesson overview, prompt, and section for you to respond to your mentee. A gray bar with "Write to your mentee" written on it lives on the bottom of the page, and will scroll with you as you navigate the lesson. This means if you're writing a message, you can scroll up to refer to the content and keep writing. To open the message section, click anywhere on the gray bar at the bottom.

Clicking this bar will bring up the text field. Once the message is done, click "Send Message" on the bottom right and you're good to go!

Messages in lessons work like email. Once a message is sent, that's it! You won't be able to edit or delete it. You can, however, send multiple messages within the same lesson. Each new message is posted below the one before, creating an easy-to-read thread.

After sending your message, a popup window will appear:

Not every lesson will have extras afterwards, but if they do, feel free to check them out! Otherwise, you have a few options.

  1. "Back to Lesson" - This will bring you back to the Lesson that was just completed.
  2. "Back to Homepage" - Brings you back to the Homepage.
  3. "View Unread Messages" - This will only appear if you have unread messages from previous Lessons in your curriculum inbox, and will continue to appear until all messages have been read. Clicking it will bring you to the most recent unread message.
  4. "Start Current Lesson" - This will only appear if you have not started or completed the current assigned Lesson. Clicking it will bring you directly to that Lesson.

Once you complete a Lesson, the button on the Homepage under "Current Curriculum" will change to say "Lesson Complete." This is how you know you've successfully done the assigned Lesson for that week. To return to the Lesson, click on the blue "Lesson Complete" button.

Conversations

Conversations is a lot like texting. It's a fast, easy way to chat with your mentee, and can be a lot less formal than the lessons. This isn't a space to correct grammar or spelling, but rather a feature to let mentees and mentors communicate a little more freely and openly.

If you have a new message, it will appear on the top right of the screen like this:

Once clicked, it will bring up the conversations box:

You can use Conversations to communicate about everything outside of the lesson prompts: share progress towards a goal, fill each other in on weekend plans, discuss a movie, share articles, check in during school break, etc. Conversations is the flexible space to build your relationship and work towards your goals. You can add a photo by clicking the paperclip button, or even add an emoji by clicking the smiley-face button!

Mobile App

It's 2018, of course we have an app! Currently, you can use it for conversations with your mentee, but there are more features on the way soon. Download the iOS or Android version and learn more about the app here: Navigating the Mobile App.
