Who should I ask? Getting started with informational interviewing

You know it's important to network. But who should you network with, and how do you get started?

Whether your they work in your field of interest or not, your mentor is a great person to start with, since they already know you and most likely have an extensive professional network. Two other great places to turn are your campus career center, which may be able to introduce you to alumni in your field, and professional organizations in your areas of interest, such as the National Society of Black Engineers

As you build your list, you may want to think about the two different ways to build up your contacts: outbound and inbound networking

Once you have some ideas about who to ask, it's time to get started, so click here for advice about how to write an effective email to ask someone for an informational interview.
