As your mentee begins to wrap up their first year of college, check in with your mentee and work together to plan for summer opportunities they can engage in that align to their career interests.  Even if your mentee is not taking courses, they should view the summer as an essential part of their college experience.  Help your mentee view summer is an opportunity to gain experience and build their resume through jobs, internships, volunteering, travel, or additional coursework.  In addition to building their resume, summer jobs can offer opportunities for mentees to earn income.
